No. We do not have early arrival options. The first day of move-in will occur on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
Residents are allowed to bring two to three family members or friends to help them move in during their appointment.
NIU volunteers will be present on Aug. 23 and 24 for any new students who need assistance during their move-in. However, please note, that there will be no volunteers to assist with move-in on Aug. 26 or 27.
NIU students, faculty, staff and alumni are welcome to volunteer for move-in days.
If you plan to ship personal belongings, schedule these items to arrive on or after the day you are scheduled to move in. You should travel to campus with the essential items you will need during your first few days on campus. Learn more and look up your mailing address.
Yes, if you requested before Aug. 1, your bed will be set up by the time you arrive. Late requests will be honored but may not be completed until after classes begin.
Due to limited space around the halls, we ask that you do not bring trailers or U-Hauls during move-in. Please plan accordingly and pack your belongings into one vehicle, but no more than two.

You can view and purchase the parking permit required for your residence hall with NIU’s Parking Services.
