Pre-Arrival Steps

  1. Sign up for a move-in appointment. New and returning fall residents are required to register for a move-in appointment to be allowed entry to their residence hall or Northern View apartment. Appointments will occur in half hour blocks throughout each day. Further details regarding appointment sign-up with be distributed via NIU student email addresses by late July.
  2. Upload proof of vaccination. Residents and their guests must be vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter NIU residential halls, and all Northern View and hall residents are required to upload proof of their vaccinations and booster. For more information, visit Protect the Pack. Submit your vaccination record or your medical or religious exemption request through MyNIU.

Move-In Day Steps

  1. Arrive on time: You will not be permitted to enter your residence hall more than 30 minutes before your scheduled move-in appointment.  Please do your best to arrive within 10 minutes of your scheduled move-in appointment.
  2. Unloading your car: We will have unloading areas for you to unpack your car.  Our volunteers will be outside each hall for first year students moving-in on August 17 and 18 to direct and assist you. We ask you to pack all your belongings into one vehicle and label items with your room number.
  3. Move-in: Collect your room key and welcome packet at the designated check in location of your residence hall. Students will see signs at the unloading areas directing them to the check in locations. A photo-ID is necessary for check-in, don’t forget to have it handy. A limited supply of moving carts will also be available on a first come, first served basis.
