All residence halls will close at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, for the fall term.
Winter break housing will be offered from Dec. 11 until Jan. 14 to students currently living in Neptune and New Hall. Students in these halls looking to stay during winter break must register for break housing.
If you live in another hall and would like to stay during winter break, housing availability is limited and not guaranteed. It is advised to register by Dec. 8 for housing accommodations during winter break
If you don't sign up for winter break housing, you'll need to leave your room and come back in the spring. Please note, it is important to take any critical items with you as all resident halls will be locked during break.
In order to sign up for winter break housing, you must have a COVID-19 Vaccination on file with the University. Winter break housing requests will not be permitted for students who do not provide their COVID-19 Vaccination to the university before December 6, 2021.

You can stay in your current space during winter break if you:
If you live in Northern View, your contract already lets you stay through the break if you have a contract for spring semester.
Only current Neptune and New Hall residents can sign up for winter break housing where they currently live.
Students from other residence halls may request to be placed on a waiting list, and if space is available will be assigned to a temporary space, contingent on availability, for the duration of the break. Those students placed in temporary assignments will not be able to access their fall room assignment during winter break. They will need to bring any critical items needed with them to their temporary space.
All residence halls will be locked during the break. Only students who have signed up for winter break housing will be able to use their NIU OneCard and hall entry card to enter their hall.
Main desks and the Northern View main office will be closed during the break.
Campus dining locations and the Huskie Food Pantry will be closed during the break, but here are some dining options:
All residence hall desks will close on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021 at 10 a.m. Information desks in Neptune Central and New Hall East will be open for mail and package pick up Monday through Saturday from 2-3 p.m. with the exception of holidays. Packages ordered through services like Amazon, FedEx, etc. will not be delivered during the break periods. It would be wise not to have items shipped over the break.
If you need immediate assistance at any point, please contact the main front desk number to reach a hall staff member. Hall staff will be available at all times, even during holidays.

The front desks in Neptune Central, New Hall East will only be open from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. You can call your hall's front desk number to be connected to the hall staff on duty when the desk is closed. If your concern is a non-emergency facilities issue, you can submit your request online.
You must leave and return in the spring. Read about moving out for the fall.
Cancellations will be accepted until 4 p.m. Central on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021. After that time, all students who apply for winter break housing will be charged $200 (Dec. 11 - Jan. 14).
Due to COVID-19 protocols, approved winter break housing students may not have any guests present in their rooms during the break period.
