No. This event doesn't replace the NIU commencement ceremony. It's an additional celebration meant to celebrate you and your accomplishments in the community.
Latino Graduation
Sunday, April 28, 2024, noon to 3 p.m.
Holmes Student Center, Carl Sandburg Auditorium
In honor of all the achievements and efforts of our Graduating Latino/a/x students at Northern Illinois University the Latino Resource Center proudly presents Latino Graduation; hosted in both fall and spring semesters.
This pre-commencement event recognizes graduates who have successfully completed an undergraduate or graduate degree. This ceremony is free to students and guests. If you wish to be recognized as a graduate, you must register by the deadline. General guests do not have to register.
Spring ceremony: Sunday, April 28 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Holmes Student Center, Carl Sandburg Auditorium. Please register no later than April 15.

Eligibility
You will receive an invitation email during the semester (fall/spring) that you have applied for graduation with important details regarding the semester's Latino Graduation. To register you must have applied for graduation.
- Fall/December graduates are eligible to participate during fall Latino Graduation
- Spring/summer graduates can participate in the spring Latino Graduation.
Check-in and Cost
There is no check-in, but the event will start promptly at noon, we ask that you be seated in designated areas by then. There is no cost to attend the ceremony.
Registration
Once you have applied for graduation, you can register to attend the Latino Graduation. After your registration is received, you will be sent a confirmation email with details about the ceremony.
Important note: If you did not receive a confirmation email for Latino Graduation the registration did not go through; you must re-submit. Email confirmation will be sent to the email you specify on the form.
Frequently Asked Questions
Graduates should wear professional attire (cocktail/business). Graduation caps and gowns are optional.
Traditionally, cords are only given out in person at the ceremony in recognition of students’ participation in the ceremony, it is not a graduation gift.
The Latino Resource Center does not sell any items and you do not need to purchase any commemorative items to participate at the Latino Graduation Ceremony. You are able to purchase from anywhere, however, we’ve recommended World’s Printing & Specialties Co.
If you purchased any commemorative items and had them delivered to the Latino Center and you miss the ceremony, it will be your responsibility to pick up your purchased items from the Latino Center as we are unable to mail any items.
Yes! This event is streamed live on our LRC Facebook or Instagram for those families and loved ones who are unable to attend.
Confirmation emails go to the email you specified when you registered, if you did not receive it you must resubmit.
