Graphic Designer

Position Overview

The Graphic Designer functions as part of the Campus Dining Marketing Team. This position reports to the Social Media, Marketing and Graphic Design graduate assistant. The Graphic Designer will design and print materials for the department as well as assist in coordinating marketing and public relations activities for the department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represent Campus Dining Services at Admission events and Orientation sessions (when needed)
  • Assist in event set-up and event clean-up (when needed)
  • Assist in display/presentation creation, updates and additions
  • Develop methods of distributing publications and promotional materials; coordinate distribution
  • Work with various clients to develop appropriate marketing strategies
  • Design posters, publications, postcards, t-shirts, and promotional items for departmental use
  • Design images for department’s Facebook page
  • Maintain communication with Media Services, Document Services, and Central Receiving on print orders
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the marketing team
  • Brainstorm and create engaging marketing post on a variety of social media platforms, including by not limited to: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding Campus Dining Services, communications with residents about their concerns, and any situations which may violate a student’s privacy. This may include incidents in which you are involved or about which you have been informed including: roster information, names of residents, unlisted phone numbers, mail deliveries, staff activities, judicial actions, crisis management plans, and police interaction
  • Attend and participate in semester training sessions, monthly team meetings, and administrative conferences as needed
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and sign time sheets to meet established deadlines
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Abide by, and support, all policies, procedures, and missions of Campus Dining Services, the Division of Student Affairs and Northern Illinois University. Actions that could be perceived as undermining the department, division, or university are cause for appropriate work related disciplinary sanctions, up to and including immediate termination

Position Requirements

  • Must be an undergraduate student at NIU enrolled for at least 6 credit hours
  • Must have and maintain a cumulative 2.0 grade point average (unless an Academic Probation Work Permit is submitted and approved)
  • Must be in good standing with the Office of Community Standards & Student Conduct
  • Must successfully pass an Illinois State security background check
  • Available to work throughout the 2017-2018 academic year (employment during holiday breaks are optional)
  • Available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Exceptional team work skills
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to learn fast and pick up new skills quickly
  • Self-directed with excellent time management skills
