Welcome to an opportunity of a lifetime!
You are invited to volunteer to be an NI GUIDE for 2008-2009!
Each year, hundreds of student volunteers just like you serve as NI Guides during Welcome Days in the fall.
All NI GUIDES may move into their residence halls early on Tuesday, August 19.
You are NOT required to live on-campus to be an NI Guide. All NIU students are welcome to volunteer and encouraged to participate in this fun, high energy, HUSKIE experience!
Full participation for Opening Day/Welcome Days is needed to avoid the early move in fee of $50 per day.
NI GUIDES are a friendly, out-going, and dedicated to the overall presentation of our department and university.
Early move-in will be Tuesday, August 19 , 2008, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Training will begin at 2:45 p.m. that same afternoon. The two day training will cover an overview of the Opening Day/Welcome Days, customer service, effective communication skills, what it means to be an "ambassador" of the university, leadership development, and specific components of HUSKIE PRIDE.

Important dates for 2008-2009:
- Tuesday, August 19: 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. NI GUIDE early move-in
- Tuesday, August 19 through Wednesday August 20: NI GUIDE training
- Wednesday, August 20: hall preparation
- Thursday, August 21: NIU Opening Day and the Great Huskie Bash
- Thursday, August 21, through Sunday, August 24, NIU Welcome Days
- Monday, August 25: First day of classes
- Columbus Day-Monday, October 13, 2008
- Veterans Day- Tuesday, November 11, 2008
- Presidents Day- Monday, February 16, 2009
- Good Friday-Friday, April 10, 2009
If your plans change, please notify the office. Failure to comply with the program expectations of August training, Opening Day, and Welcome Days may result in the $50 per day early move-in fee to be billed to your account.
